Kinasi Island Lodge is a small, exclusive Tanzania lodge facing Chole Bay on Mafia Island and is one of the Africa hotels. Guests are hosted in 14 lanteen bungalows, each with a large verandah and en-suite bathroom. The bungalows have been constructed with palm-leaf (makuti) roofs, concrete foundations and floors. There is 24 hour electricity and hot and cold water supply from three permanent wells at this Tanzania lodge. There is no air-conditioning, but fans and large shutter doors and windows keep the rooms cool.

Mafia Island is perfect for the active beachcomber who wants to enjoy the sea and islands, game fishing, bird-watching or just for simple relaxation.
Great care has been taken to develop Kinasi in the form of a home. The mix of design and furnishings at this Tanzania Lodge is associated with Zanzibar, India, Morocco, Italy and the rustic surroundings of Mafia and Tanzania is absolutely stunning.
The chefs at this Tanzania Lodge will make sure that every meal is memorable with fresh ingredients from the sea, as well as poultry and meats from the mainland. Dishes at this Tanzania Lodge such as crab and coconut soup with coriander, grilled calamari fingers with sesame seed, prawn silotto with tender mchicha (local spinach), lobster lasangne with lemon grass are Kinasi originals.
Weddings:
If you want to get married on Mafia Island and you want the actual marriage procedure to be carried out at Kinasi Island Lodge on the beach, at the poolside verandah or under the shade of the trees, the staff and management at the Tanzania lodge will arrange it for you.
The following original documentation is required:
An application letter in English (signed by both partners) indicating that you want to marry in Tanzania with the intended date of marriage and a signed written statement from each partner, stating that you are single (if you have been married before, a copy of the divorce papers).
A 21-day notice before the actual date of marriage will have to be put up at the notice board of the municipality in town. If you already have this from your own country and town, please send it as it will help alot.
If you send all the above papers to the management of the Tanzania lodge at least one month before the marriage date they will be able to carry out the whole bureaucratic process for you. The responsible Government official who conducts civil weddings, priest or minister of your chosen church, or other person requested by you and empowered to perform marriages in Tanzania will be at Kinasi in order to conduct the official ceremony.
