  • Located on an expanse of beautiful beach wilderness on the northern tip of Zanzibar, and protected by a coral reef, this Zanizbar hotel is the ideal place for all forms of watersport, or merely relaxing in the temperate water while soaking up the sun.

Ras Nungwi Beach Hotel is built from hand-cut fossilised coral limestone and other natural materials, and literally blends into the landscape. The vision is for the hotel and nature to coexist harmoniously so that guests can enjoy the beauty of the natural surroundings without forsaking creature comforts. An eco-sensitive approach has ensured that the delicate balance of the land and sea flora and fauna have been preserved.

The proximity and variety of the surrounding reefs makes Ras Nungwi the perfect diving destination, and the Ras Nungwi Beach Hotel has an on-site fully equipped dive centre, professionally run to international PADI standards. Dive adventures are available for all experience levels including beginners who can be trained to full PADI certification by the resident instructors. A wide range of other watersports are also available.

The variety of sea-life on the nearby coral reefs is immense, with regular sitings of Dolphin, Manta Ray, Turtle and reef Shark. Whale Shark are spotted frequently.

Ras Nungwi Beach Hotel is situated in close proximity to some of Africa's best deep sea fishing grounds and is one of the best Zanzibar hotels for this sport. The waters between Zanzibar and Pemba are home to some excellent game fishing opportunities. Ras Nungwi Beach Hotel boats on offer vary according to the time of year, but are all large, twin screw craft, equipped to the highest international safety standards. They also all have the latest technology, with GPS navigational aids, colour echo sounders and fishfinders.

Ras Nungwi Beach Hotel's experienced skippers can instruct novices and talk fishermen through any procedure in the course of reeling in their catch. Tag and release is generally encouraged for all big fish unless it is the fisherman's first ever catch, his biggest to date, or if it is likely to be an East African or All Africa record.

August to November provides really good sport for the big Yellowfin Tuna, one of the strongest fish around. Big Blue Marlin and a number of Striped and Black Marlin are also found, as well as Sailfish. During this season, multiple hook ups are normal, when the ocean can come alive with huge schools of Tuna in pursuit of smaller fish. During the billfish season, which is from November to March, Striped Marlin are the most prolific, sometimes showing in packs of up to 10. Large Blue and Black Marlin are also quite common during this period.
