Day 3 - 6: Various islands, MadagascarThree boat fishing trips have been included in your holiday in Madagascar, allowing you to enjoy the remaining time for surf fishing, kayak fishing, excellent fly fishing off the rocks, or just relaxing! Additional boat hire is available, should you wish for more time out on the ocean (additional charge). Enjoy some excellent fishing just 3km off Turtle Bay beach, where you will find the continental shelf dropping from 10 to 100 meters, running parallel along the coast for 13km.
Because Kalakajoro is largely un-populated, fishing opportunities are fantastic, and some of the species you can expect to catch are Kingfish, Sailfish, Dog-tooth tuna, Spanish Mackerel and Queen fish. Kalakajoro & the Radama islands is one of the best locations in Africa for a diverse fly fishing experience.
The camp operates a 28ft Cape Craft ski boat, with 2x 225hp outboards, and a 16ft Coast Cat, with 2 x 50hp outboards, all of which are well maintained and equipped for game fishing. The skipper and one-man crew are extremely adept at their jobs and are very knowledgeable in terms of fish species, their whereabouts and their proximity to the camp - thus avoiding unnecessary travel time in hunting for fish. The camp mainly specialises in trolling and conventional big-game fishing. Fly or spinning tackle should be taken along by visitors, if required.
There is also plenty to do on Kalakajoro if you have other interests than fishing. Enjoy exploring around the island sea kayaking in the Indian Ocean or taking some time to walk along the beach, or try to find some of the many birds that call the Radama islands their home. The islands are also very good for snorkeling, and you may find yourself spending hours in the water, mesmerized by the fascinating sea life on your holiday in Madagascar.
